Steering rack

Want to convert the front differential cross piece to lower the differential and clean up the angles on the CV joints. So how to lengthen the steering shaft between the lower u-joint and the rack input. Does anyone have idea about what diameter and how many splines it has?

You can try this out- cut the shaft, machined it with a tube that fit over the shaft. Then use two pins to lock everything together. You could always weld it in place instead.

You can cut the steering shaft, machine a tube that will fit over the shaft and either use two pins to lock everything together or better option will be to weld it in place. Universal steering steel shaft of 3 feet length is available online. To determine the spline size of a component (rack and pinion, steering column, and steering box), measure the outside diameter and count the number of splines. If there is a flat spot on the shaft and some of the splines are missing, count halfway around where there are splines and double that number.
